Focus on New Zealand - Land of the Long White Cloud

The first in an occasional series of articles about HomeLink and our colleagues around the world.

Meet John and Valerie Martin

John and Val

John and Val have been running HomeLink NZ since 2000.  They have been exchanging since 1993 (22 years!) and have done well over 50 exchanges in that time - so they are well qualified to offer help and advice to the several hundred HomeLink members in New Zealand.

There are more than three times as many Kiwi members looking for a UK swap as there are Brits looking for an NZ swap, so if you can consider a trip to the Land of the Long White Cloud you'll have plenty of options.

If you are interested in a New Zealand swap do ensure that you update your Dates & Destinations to show NZ so that those members will find you when they do a reverse search.

Why visit New Zealand?

Around 200,000 Brits visit New Zealand each year and it's not hard to see why.  It's a welcoming, safe and incredibly beautiful country - no wonder they chose to film Lord of the Rings there.  There are too many highlights to list them all, but here are a few to give you a feel:

Bay of Islands, NZ The stunning Bay of Islands in the sub-tropical north has golden beaches, secluded coves, warm waters, dramatic coastlines and spectacular forest.
Marlborough Sounds NZ Marlborough Sounds - take the ferry between North and South Island to get a fabulous view - or hire a kayak to get up close to the wonderful coastline
Milford Sound Milford Sound on the West Coast is a magnificent glacial fiord where the cliffs rise vertically and waterfalls cascade down. Take a cruise or fishing trips to see it in all its beauty.
franz josef glacier Fox and Franz Josef Glaciers - take a guided ice hike up the glacier - or a helicopter flight to the top!
whale watching new zealand Take a cruise from the Whaleway Station (!) in Kaikoura to see humpback, sperm and blue whales

Waitangi Treaty Ground is New Zealand's most historic site where the country's founding document was signed in 1840.
Rotorua new zealand Rotorua is known for bubbling mud pools, shooting geysers and natural hot springs, as well as plenty of Maori culture
