As the holiday season approaches, most members have now finalised their home exchange plans for the forthcoming summer. However, there are still some members looking for a short notice swap in UK or Europe and these can be viewed via the Short Notice List. Go to View Homes on our House Swap page and click on the Short Notice List button on the left hand menu.
HomeLink members are happy members!
I received an email from long term member Mr R in London a week or so ago. He says
"We have been totally spoilt by Homelink and are amongst your greatest fans. We already have a fab place in Mexico lined up for next summer and this October in the Dordogne in the bag too."
and a new member from Bedforshire just emailed to say
"It is going great. We have two weeks in Florida in October, six weeks in Australia in Jan/Feb 2013 and two weeks in Canada in June 2013. Also a provisional three weeks in NZ in 2014. So you could say it has been mildly successful!!!!"

Why not get away next winter?
With the British summer yet to get started, many members are busy planning a hot and sunny Christmas. New member, Paul from Wales, has wasted no time in sorting out his itinerary in Australia. He emailed this week to say that so far he has arranged the following exchanges:
- December 2012 at Calondra, Sunshine Coast
- January 2013 in Mooloolaba, Sunshine Coast
- First 2 weeks February 2013 on the Brisbane River and
- Second 2 weeks February 2013 at Surfers Paradise, Gold Coast
Linking a number of exchanges together like this is a good way to extend your stay and provides an opportunity to see other areas of a country (and to avoid the worst of the British winter!). It does help to have a friend or relative locally who can visit your home in between exchanges to prepare for the next family.
Here are a few warm winter ideas for starters...
||2 mins from the beach, this home north of Sydney has stunning ocean views
||If Australia is too far away, how about visiting Hanoi - the fascinating capital of Vietnam?
||Spacious apartment in Brisbane with lovely views and a private pool.
||Stunning contemporary home just north of Auckland with views over the bay. Just minutes from the beach and amenities.
||This Australian member's daughter is getting married next Spring and so she is looking for a 6 - 8 week exchange during March and April in the south of England.
Don't forget that HomeLink also has 1000s of homes in countries throughout Europe, so if you're looking to travel closer to home, there are plenty to choose from. Go to our Home Swap page and click the 'View Homes' button to browse these homes.
Types of exchange
Some new members are unclear about the various types of exchange. The most usual is a straight swap between two homes at the same time. A Non-Simultaneous Exchange (NSX) is when the dates of the two halves of the swap do not co-incide. This is most common when a member is swapping a second home, but some members who know that their home will be empty for a period of time are also able to do a NSX. A Youth Exchange is popular with the teenage children of European members who wish to come to the UK to improve their English - you would host each other's child at different times. Finally, a Hospitality Exchange is when you host another member for a couple of days while you are at home. They would then host you at another time. This can be useful if you are travelling around or perhaps between two consecutive exchanges. All of these are non-commercial arrangements - although it's a nice gesture with a hospitality exchange to perhaps take your hosts out for a meal as a thank you. Many members are also open to a Weekend Exchange - a few days away in relatively easily accessible locations.
If this has whetted your appetite and you'd like to have a chat about how a home exchange may work for you and your family, do get in touch and I'll give you a call.
