The most successful members are usually the most proactive members.

The first step is to ensure that your home exchange listing is appealing and informative.  Once you're happy with it, then you are ready to start making contact with other members to see if they wish to swap their home with yours.

Ensure that your home exchange listing is appealing and informativeTop tips for home exchange offers:

  • personalise your message and always include the recipient's name(s)
  • describe where you live and say what's great about it
  • include a little detail about your home and what you are looking for
  • tell them about your travelling group and any special requirements
  • make your message friendly and welcoming - building a rapport is important

Send a couple of messages at a time to well targeted members - check that their home is suitable for you before writing.  If, after a few days, you've had no positive response, email  another couple of members.  Avoid emailing large numbers of members at one time - you don't want to have to turn people down if more than one responds with an eager 'yes please!'

Dear John and Sue

Your home and area look lovely, would you be interested in swapping with our home in southern England next summer?  We are looking for a 2-3 week exchange between 29th July and 1st September.

We have a large, comfortable home on the outskirts of Winchester in southern England with a private garden. The historic city of Winchester is well connected to other parts of the UK and is less than one hour from London.  There are many things to see and do nearby including the New Forest National Park, the south coast, Stonehenge and many historic cities and sites.

We have 2 well-behaved children aged 15 and 12 who have done many exchanges and who will take great care of your home.

I hope I can tempt you to come to England! Let me know if you need any more information!

Best wishes
Caroline & Jon
